Hey everyone =)!
It's been a while I posted a new blog, sorry about that but there was a lot to arrange before the trip and of course my nerves kicked in a little haha!
So about the journey on last Friday.. my mum and dad brought me to the airport and before we went to check in my bags we decided to get some wonderful salmon at LaPlace. It was nice to have my last dinner with them before going on such a long trip. After that we walked to the check-ins and the moment to say goodbye was there. We hugged, we kissed and said some loving words and of course my parents wanted to make some pictures of their 'little' daughter, with the whole line of people waiting to check in standing right next to me haha but I guess that's what love and family is about:).
I will skip the waiting part at the airport as that wasn't that exciting to be honest.. So on the flight to Dubai it felt like the time was passing by quickly and the plane was so huge, I could stretch my legs completely and I could listen to all sorts of music and watching movies on the display in front of me so I was pretty optimistic about the next flight. Well... the next flight to Auckland was of course 10 hours longer than the first one and I was looking at the time and realised only 2 hours passed by so I still needed to go for another 14 hours! After 5 hours my legs were hurting already so much that I just didn't know what to do with myself π. I think I've been standing in the aisle for 1,5 hours in a row, making all sorts of movements with my legs that it must have looked very funny for other people. The good thing was, you get 2 hours of free wifi so I was able to text some friends to kill the time. Once in a while they came with food and I didn't quite understand what I could choose from and besides that.. because of the time differences I was thinking what are we going to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner??π I told the stewardess I only wanted a yoghurt but apparently I could only choose between chicken and fish so I chose the chicken and said to her: yeah sorry it's my first long flight haha.. she asked me if this was also my first time flying with Emirates and I answered with a nod. After a while she came back with a big retro polaroid camera and she asked me if I was okay with her making a picture of me but I was wearing my glasses, looking all sweaty and exhausted so I literally said to the stewardess: well.. but I look like shit haha! Not a very polite way to say now that I think of it but she really insisted as it was nice to have this moment captured and look back on it so I agreed and that's the picture you see on top of this blog and I must say.. it's not as bad as I thought π. And because she knew it was my first flight after that, she questioned all of the sudden all my knowledge about flying.. she even asked me if I knew how the table workedπ. You can imagine I was so extremely happy when I finally arrived at the airport of Auckland in Aotea Roa which means New Zealand in Maoriπ.
The first thing I did was buying a Spark simcard at the airport for my other phone so I could text my friends and family to let them know I arrived safely. I went through security pretty quickly and after that I stepped into the Supershuttle bus that only costs 25 NZD for one person and it gets you right where you need to be.
The owner of the hostel wasn't there yet but luckily there were some guests that let me in and that was very nice considering the fact I was wearing leggings while it was 22 degrees outside which felt like 30. I met a German girl (Daniela) that also just arrived at the hostel. She's only here for 16 days to visit a German friend here. After a shower I wanted to go and get some coffee and Daniela joined me :). To my disappointment they just cleaned the coffee machine (of course haha π) and the girl that worked there was suggesting to take a nice refreshing special drink with cucumber and mint so we decided to go for that together with an almond croissant π₯.
It's the first real day in Auckland and I enjoyed some time alone today, I am sitting in a park right now while I am typing this blog :). Tomorrow I am planning to go to the Auckland zoo or take a boat to the an island to go to a birds sanctuary. It is really a stunning country as far as I have seen. I will keep you updated as promised and I talked to the owner of the hostel and he gave me a phone number of the Endangered Species Foundation so I can ask where I can visit the different charities that some of you donated to. So I will go to the supermarket to get some groceries so I will have a dinner tonight and I will speak to you guys later, thanks for reading! βπ
